We are officially in puppy season! Many longing humans bring a new addition into their
home this time of year and we want to help new pet parents prepare for a lifelong
journey of enjoyment. Or, really, all dog owners because our puppy tips are great for
older pups that may still act like puppies!
It’s unanimous. Puppies are SUPER cute! They also have lots of energy, almost non-
existent self-control, they need a nap…or three, have short attention spans, and provide
a clean canvas for quality training. Puppy training from a young age will build owner
confidence while also helping to keep your pup on a positive track from this early stage
in life, before challenges and frustrating behaviors develop.
It can be overwhelming to bring a new dog into your home! We hope we can help you
(or someone you know) minimize the frustrations by sharing a few simple tips to focus
your attention in these early days.
*NOTE – you won’t even see sit, down, or stay on our list at this age. While many
owners, and even well-known trainers, may focus on basic obedience at this age, there
are more fundamental training opportunities that will help you develop a well-mannered
member of your family. Obedience is not an effective training plan to reducing stress in
your home and elevating the enjoyment you find in your dog.
